Serving others and strengthening her community are at the heart of Addison P’s latest service project. As a Healthy Texas Youth, Texas MyPlate Ambassador, and active member of her local 4-H club, Addison recently completed the construction and installation of a community blessing box at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

The blessing box was created to provide local families and individuals with access to nonperishable food items and basic necessities whenever needed. The project reflects both Addison’s passion for nutrition education through the Texas MyPlate program and the 4-H mission of leadership, service, and community involvement.

The project's requirements required Addison to plan and organize it from start to finish. From gathering supplies and coordinating construction to stocking the box with food, the project was truly a community effort centered on helping others. The blessing box operates on a simple but meaningful concept: “Take what you need, leave what you can.”

“As a Texas MyPlate Ambassador, I’ve learned how important access to nutritious food is for families,” Addison shared. “I wanted to create something that could make a difference in our community and encourage others to help however they can.”

The blessing box will serve as a convenient, accessible resource for community members facing temporary hardship, while also encouraging local residents to donate items and support neighbors in need. The project highlights how young leaders can create a lasting impact through compassion, initiative, and teamwork.

Through her involvement in 4-H and the Texas MyPlate Ambassador program, Addison continues to demonstrate outstanding leadership and dedication to serving others. Her blessing box project stands as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can have a meaningful effect on a community.

Residents, community organizations, churches, and MVISD clubs and organizations are encouraged to help support the blessing box by donating canned goods, shelf-stable foods, hygiene products, and other essential items to help keep it stocked for those in need.

Addison would like to extend her sincere gratitude to the businesses and community supporters who generously donated to help make her Blessing Box project possible.
